Good observation. Interestingly, I know a doc, an Ophthalmologist, who started one of those laser surgery centers. Apparently, he was a bit late in the game, and couldn't compete. He lost a lot of money. But he is not particularly bitter about it. He knew the risks, he lost - and that's life. He is paying the price. Could have made it big... Better luck next time. Otoh, I've seen docs who were squeezed out of business because the government kept messing with their fees. The latter ones are far, far more numerous. I've met many docs who gave up their practices and took jobs - and are getting paid better than they did while in private practice. I am one of them. Instead of having one assistant, i have now a good number of bosses and support personnel - and everyone is getting paid. One thing which escapes me is how in Gd's world is this supposed to lower costs?

It's illegal to advertise these prices. Medical practice is a legal monopoly. People don't realize it.
