<<<<<Not being insured != "sticking it to the taxpayer.>>>>>

That's the same issue Tim. If you're not insured and get stuck with long term care guess who pays? The tax payer.

<<<<< There is no health care crises>>>>>

Oh, you don't think Medicare is in crises? The debt amassed under Medicare is all about "crises" according to Conservatives (And I agree).

<<<<lot of different conservatives and a lot of different ideas from them>>>>

And that is exactly my point. You didn't rule under Bush - now you may get another chance. getting the agreement of a lot of conservatives with a lot of different ideas is like herding cats. I don't think it happens.

Your list is great, but only nibbles at the edges. Warm fuzzy feel good talking points address none of the runaway cost associated with the science of living a looooong time at the end of life and the problem of the baby boomers. Try addressing the real cost! AND - How do you pay for the cost of unfunded long term care? You don't want to force people to pay for insurance - so who will then? You think young with nothing to lose and in good health will get insurance? Why would they? (By the way, I don't understand your number 4)

To recap, how do you pay for;
1) Demographics where a large percentage of the people need the most expensive care of their life - while the people to pay for this cost is shrinking on a percentage bases.
2) Long term care of the uninsured. A baby born with a birth defect for instance that will be a cost to society for the length of that child's life. Conservatives want every baby born no matter what the cost to support that child - okay great, then tell us how you expect to pay for it.
3) Science that allows some to live forever at the end of life. Conservatives are already on record as being against "death panels" - but they offer nothing in the way of a solution to pay for this. So you can retire at 66 and easily live for another 30 years - many of the years needing huge cost outlays.
