So if a woman has a child born with severe birth defects and has no insurance - that child could live for a very VERY long time and need health care - how do you pay for it?

Paying for it is still an issue even with insurance.

Esp, if you only get insurance by forcing the insurance company to take the expensive new client. That's not insuring anything, that's taking from the insurance company to give to the baby. Real insurance is a voluntary contract on both ends to cover insurable risks. Not force to cover an existing condition.
