If SET is not a Holy Grail, are finger scans?

This piece from today's NY Times gives us something to think about regarding the obstacles facing E-commerce verification protocols:

search.nytimes.com

It discusses the Secure Electronic Transaction system, which is intended to go online next year and do what we would want the finger ID to do. It has its problems, including 30 second verification requirements and growing consumer confidence in the existing system of E-commerce. The question for us is how many of these problems would be shared by an Identix solution, and how would an attempt at an SET world potentially pre-empt or spoil an IDX Holy Grail? (Note that GTE is here, too.)

Do you read the news on all the co.s that are traded? I doubt Smith Barney brokers have that much time either. The Salomon lists will be
reviewed by many of them because it is the first time they have access to it. It should expose the IDX story to many who have never heard of the stock IMO

I think the point was made earlier about the research recommendation having to be in-house. Some firms only allow you to sell something they themselves recommmend. It's a variation on the old IBM deal called NIH(not invented here). Or was that DEC?

Am I wrong about this, but isn't Smith Barney being merged with Salomon Brothers (or visa versa) as part of the Travelers deal?
