Whole lot of misreporting going on in the Zimmerman-Martin case:

"Indisputable"? I Dispute This, PEOPLE

I'm back from a routine visit to the doctor's office, where People magazine's front page coverage of the Trayvon Martin killing caught my eye. OK, it is not my go-to news source, but this is how the case will be framed at water coolers around America.

Especially ludicrous is this:

What happened next remains unclear – and is at the heart of a furor sweeping the country as people demand Zimmerman’s arrest. This much is indisputable: There were cries of “Help,” then Zimmerman fired two bullets from a semiautomatic handgun, one of which fatally struck the teen in the chest.

Two bullets? AAAGH! That was media hype spun up by the Martin family attorneys. Even the NY Times, which lapped that up like kittens, backed off the next day and now reports that there was only one shot. (the police recovered a gun with a full clip). Some day PEOPLE will get the memo.

SANFORD AND GUNS: Another PEOPLE contribution to the laugh track, which I can't find online - PEOPLE reports that, shielded by Florida's Stand Your Ground law, Zimmerman still has the gun he used to shoot Trayvon. Does the word "gun" prompt brain freeze in libs? Do they really believe cops just return evidence in fatal shootings? Mother Jones eventually debunked this, and the gun is mentioned on p. 4 of the Sanford PD initial police report as being in evidence.

But some myths never die! I see that over at the Daily Kos, some ranter posted this Burning Question on April 2:

There's no report that the Gun was confiscated or Zim's license to carry revoked.

Yes, there is. But that report has yet to fly from the City of Sanford website, land in my lap and chirp at me; every damn time, I have to click through to it. And I bet that would be true for the Kossacks, too.

TO BE FAIR: PEOPLE got the 46 911 calls right, dating them to August 2004; they don't get the weight wrong, ducking that whole topic; and they mention that there is a witness to the notion that Trayvon Martin was beating George Zimmerman.
