get as much "social benefits" as you can

Here's Obama's big theme for the election - Shared Prosperity.

He will frame the alternative as Social Darwinism.

hypothetical "veil of ignorance" which we could use to hypothesize what a person would choose as the best and most "fair" organization of society

All such theories are static. They love the simple zero sum view on fairness, rights, wealth, etc. Capitalism does not work this way - it is dynamic. A capitalist loves the golden egg - but does not forget about the goose that lays it. He needs that goose to prosper. He will not invest in a place where his right to enjoy the fruits of his work and his investment is not protected. He will not invest in a community unless he expects it to grow economically, which would keep improving the value of his investment.

People who talk about the "system" of Capitalism failing and other such things know not what they are saying. Capitalism cannot become outdated - it is simply the *right* of an individual to own property and means of production. Can't have true opportunity or real individual rights without that. Hard socialism means no rights at all. Soft socialism means a Robin Hood's kingdom on Earth. If ol' Robin starts robbin' too hard and runs out of people to rob, we know what happens.
