Now you are speculating.

I know that you don't think that any cost would justify the existence of universal service, but I would bet you are in the minority. Especially when we are wasting hundreds of billions of dollars on wars we won't win in Iraq and Afghanistan, (in other words throwing money down a rat hole), and bailing out banks to the tune of trillions of dollars (in other words throwing money down another rat hole), it seems like a small price to pay a little to maintain the excellent service that the post office provides. I am not talking to you to convince you, I know that is not possible. I am just presenting the viewpoint of the other side, who feels that the government does owe a duty to preserve the commons for the welfare of ALL of the people, and the post office is a part of that commons.
