It was liberal arts that led us to democracy dude! PhD's in liberal arts? d[-_-]b didn't say that liberal arts where nearly worthless, he said PhDs in them are nearly worthless. I might not go quite that far, but many of them are worth fairly little. All the extra effort in many cases has little real return. I'm not just talking about money, even just in terms of solid education, I would think many PhD in say "gender studies" or in marxist literary criticism or in music therapy or in dance would be pretty worthless even as an education (learning dances, is fine and perhaps useful or at least interesting to the dancer, but you don't need a Phd in it to be an expert).
