Children do not come from storks! They are a result of a sperm smashing into an egg at which time the egg has sufficient DNA to divide and grow into an embryo and so forth. This egg is the property of the mother just as the child will be when born. After birth, the State will then have an interest in the child as it will then be deemed to be a citizen and a human person. Understand that these distinctions are created by we the people and can be changed. Rationally, however, we have it right at this time in civilization. Mothers are not prevented from sitting over a pot of stewed onions. They are not hand cuffed and smashed about and fed gruel in order to appease religious control freaks. Religious police do not bust into peoples homes to take control over our sperm and eggs and to force women to birth. A human person becomes both property and a citizen and the State acquires an interest in how that property is treated and cared for. You probably don’t like the usage of property because you may think it refers to slavery as the Christians practiced for 2 millennia until civilization (including some out of the box Christians!) reformed their morals! But this is about citizens who have human rights and freedoms equal to their adult care givers but lacking in certain privileges. I use the word property so you will understand that the parents have a social duty of care and protection because the child BELONGS to them. Do not confuse this with slavery as practiced in the Church based on biblical justifications!
