What obligation does a business have to buy health care coverage for anyone? Companies do because it holds good employees as a perk, but there's absolutely no requirement or any laws or any social obligation for ANY business to do anything for anyone beyond paying them for their honest work... it's a contract, you do the work, I pay you an agreed upon amount of money for your work...

>>Same reason that corporations should provide the healthcare insurance to their employees. I just proposed to add a line item on top of the existing benefits.

You know that corporations are not required to provide healthcare insurance for their employees. They do so for 3 reasons, and the first one doesn't count.

1. To be competitive in the market. People looking for work will take a better offer and if healthcare is part of that better offer they will take it. If the better offer was pay and with that pay they could buy the healthcare plan of their choice then the company does not need to provide healthcare.

2. It is tax deductible to the corporation as a business expense but not deductible to they individual. If the make healthcare premiums deductible to the individual it changes everything.

3. Pools of employees of a corporation can get a lower rate because they can statistically show that those individuals have fewer claims. People that work for corporations are more responsible with themselves than the general public or unemployed. Allow health insurance companies the ability to set rates on any demographic they choose will lower the rates for many people. Yes it will raise it for some who make unhealthy choices, but that is what personal responsibilities all about. It's something you just don't get.
