I don't think there is any way to spin this thing positively -- this incident has furthered the awareness that Macs are vulnerable just as are Windows PCs. With the proliferation of Macs, malware is going to become an increasing problem.

Actually, this tempest in a leaky samovar* (how do I say that in formerly Dr'd USSR lingo?) brewed up a positive spin on it all, as far as I am concerned: furthered awareness helps, always!

* Samovar. Samo-var. Samo=self. Var=boil. Selfboiler.

Not trying to spin it positively. To me the negative is Apple's late response in getting the patch out. Also they should make users aware of threats and patches available. Finally, Mac users haven't had to deal with security problems that infest the Windows world. Apple has to start doing a little educating. I do like some of the security steps they are taking in Mountain Lion. I do like the security of iOS.

... and it ain't a virus.
