Yet this is what they believe and why they can never be given the benefit of the doubt.

There are actual Tolkien scholars that agonize over everything Tolkien wrote and can read and communicate in his invented languages... Tolkien and his friends CS Lewis and GK Chesterton believed in the supernatural and were all devout Catholics although Lewis I believe went back to the State Church of England.

Tolkien also believed in the myth of Atlantis and reincarnation and dragons that snored contently on piles of treasure.
