I learned many decades ago to listen to my elderly grandmother and other older people. < Precisely why we always get fooled again... > I have noticed over the years that what they said was often worth acting on. Such as avoiding sunburn, not washing oil off skin, eating right, and many other rules of the road. I looked on them as free lessons on survival. Which is not to say I slavishly followed their ideas, but I was mindful about trying a new idea.

Different people with different points of view provide a multi-faceted view of reality, not available to mutual admiration societies. Hence, even ElM contributes useful things!! That's why China won't do much in the long run. It's illegal to Think Different. "Let 100 flowers bloom" didn't mean different types, China's bosses want only the standard, approved, cloned compliant variety. Not too many either. They didn't say "Let 1 billion flowers bloom". They kept it to 100.
