Of course people and other primates are in balance with the chemical warfare going on between plants and portable living things which feed on them and each other.

The toxins in plants if ingested by people will be bad for destructive fauna in our guts and hopefully not too bad for us if it's not absorbed too much. So of course the vast range of chemicals produced by plants will be useful to people in various ways at various times. Good old aspirin for example - garden variety acetyl salicyclic acid is a traditional remedy and works wonders. Vitamin C is handy for humans too, especially since we are one of the few things that don't produce their own supplies in their biochemistry.

The current fashion to consume neurotoxins is like Picasso style art and the surrealists who are detached from reality making them Mr Cool. The fashion will pass as reality continues to assert its relentless and merciless strictures.

The dopes who think LSD and other neurotoxins helped them come up with good ideas are putting the cart before the horse. The same impetus which led them to the then novel idea of poisoning their brains with LSD was the impetus which led them to other novel thinking such as the polymerase chain reaction. For every lucky break like that where they retained some subsequent brain function, there are hundreds of poor dopes whose lives are blighted by the attempt to be cool too and to come up with amazing LSD insights which turn out to be just another dumb hallucination. I constantly have major dramatic hallucinations which are very impressive and I don't need to poison my brain to do it. Just have a good night's sleep and the dreaming gets going.
