See this is where stupidity in this country reaches a fever pitch. The one possible saving grace that can offset the passing of the Baby Boom generation to a much smaller tax paying population is if we have a robust growth in immigration. Why can't the GOP get it through their thick skulls that we NEED immigration? The answer isn't to deport everyone and shut off immigration and build fences. The answer is to create a fast and responsible path to legitimize immigrants that are already here (for those who have not engaged in other criminal activity) and to encourage some of the best sort of immigrants, the H-1 visas, to increase their numbers. We're already in deep doodoo as our taxable base shrinks. If we turn off immigration, then we're going to see some real decline as our Entitlement spending inevitably increases and our tax base shrinks as the labor participation rate continues to plummet. The macro trends in this country are very very ugly and we're doing nothing about it.
