Ultimately your world view while likely is pretty bleak... In a nutshell the current system is unsustainable .. Kind of like positive demographics (for the current setup) is a depleting resource (true) ..

Well that is the admirable self reliant trait that should be employed by everyone

Of course there is that substantial fraction of the population that is unable

Brazil takes the civilized view that they should provide for them

The US will probably, with a nudge from a Malthusian Supreme Court, maintain a posture of let the poor bastards take care of themselves and their niggling pre-existing conditions..
