It's also a set of skills and techniques. People complain that Obama is divisive - but from the Dem's perspective, he is a "uniter". He unites their side, while trying to make it larger. What I mentioned in my post is one of the techniques, which was used in yesterday's speech. Dems appeal mostly to emotions - like, no one is to be left behind, fairness, control of the power of the money bags, envy. Repub's try to appeal to logic - like indicating failures of big government, of redistribution... they talk about the importance of freedom, of having opportunities... of Capitalism having proven advantages as a creator of affluence.... etc. One glance at the above makes it clear that the Dems are closer to the people's basic emotions. In order to understand the argument from the Right, in order to have a system like ours - you need an educated population*. A dumbed down and brainwashed population will go with the emotion. *see WikiAnswers"Answer: .. George Washington wrote that without an educated population that a democracy couldn't work because you need people to understand the issues, discuss them, and be able to read about them. They also need to understand how government works and with those in place a democracy can work. Without an educated population knowing the laws and what rights they have the government is able to do things without the understanding or knowledge of the people. As long as the population is educated the government can't become a dictatorship because someone will know that it is wrong. wiki.answers.com/Q/Why_is_education_important_to_a_democracy
