Last year I hiked out from a mineral showing taking a short-cut back to the pick-up point on a lake in northern Manitoba. The short-cut meant walking through 200 metres of swamp which doesn't seem very far but when you're packing 50 lbs of rocks is quite the work-out. When I got to the lake I made a bridge by cutting down some trees to an old abandoned floating dock 15 feet out. Crossing my little bridge went fine but when I stood on the dock I went through and worse everything was now in the water except the axe that I was still holding onto. Stuck upside-down with one leg through the dock all I could think was this is a really stupid way to die. After a minute thinking about my obit I managed to smash the boards near my leg with the axe and pull myself upright and as soon as I did my BlackBerry that was upside down in the holster with all the pictures of the outcrop went to the bottom of the lake. I fished everything out of the water except the phone...
