I'm sure the business has scaled, and obviously the credit card processing fees would be less onerous on a thirteen dollar ebook purchase than on a ninety-nine cent song.

But if Apple were beginning to make a significant profit on content sales, I believe they would have reported that in one of their quarterly calls. I'd like to see one of the analysts on the next call ask about that specifically, to make sure.


Regardless of the exact margins, I doubt they make much difference in the grand scheme of things. However, I am also sure that Apple will stick to the story that they are running the store at break-even since I doubt they want the content providers looking for an extra piece of the pie.

My guess is that Apple simply sticks extra costs under that revenue to always keep it at break-even.
