no it's not....

he was being touted by palin as a VP candidate...

like it or not, he is on the national 'stage'

even if he truly believes what he says, without documented *proof* his words are intemperate and make him (and the republican party) look like mc carthy-ites.....fair or not, it is the perception that matters

same thing was true with santorum....he was driving the polls into the toilet with women voters because of his social agenda....the 'contraception' debacle (along with his 7 kids) makes him look like a neanderthal who wants women 'barefoot and pregnant'

it may not be true, but the way he spoke allowed the MSM to run with this 'republicans hate women' meme

Communist, commie, socialist, these are words that turn people off today. You want to get to people, attack the issue, don't just "name call."

The Left can call us racist, and get away with it, we can't respond in the same way and get anywhere.

IMHO it was dumb for West to say that. He was mentioned as a VP candidate and this effectively destroys that chance.

More importantly it hurts the broader cause, as you can be sure the left will use it as campaign fodder. It just looks stupid and can be played up as such. So while truly it's not a big deal I'm not sure I'd call it inconsequential either.

GOP leaders need to stay on message and not run off into the weeds here. Don't give the enemy freebies.
