Peter, sorry but direct connections to secure servers were definitely NOT fine today. orders7 and orders6 were relatively good but many of the others were either not responsive or poorly responsive. When 6 failed to return quotes, I would try others and most often they did NOT respond, especially X, Y, and Z this morning. orders8 worked some of the time.

ordersx is working fine now but then it works fine at 9:15am est only to fail at 9:30am at market open. That has happened a LOT the last several trading days.

I didn't check to see if it was IconNet or the servers that were failing. I am tired of debugging the problem when I can't do anything about it anyway. I wish YOU would do something about it.

Something is wrong in your testing methodology if you think things are fine when many of your customers are having problems. Do you check access by dialing into some independent ISP and then try to access datek? That would be a prudent thing to do.

Peter, I am sure that your servers may have been working but your ISP links to the outside world were NOT! I find that I link to Orders 6 and Orders 8 in different windows then I can usually remain connected OK. As a general observation requests to Orders 8 often time out for considerable periods or the data fails to come back from the request. Orders 6 is slower in normal times but far more reliable. If Orders 8 fails to respond generally so do Orders x,y,z and all others on the 209.x.x.x address. I have traced the path from my end and the failure always occurs on the last leg from 199.173.167.190 to 209.3.82.22 the Datek Orders8 server. I have posted the details of the trace results a few days ago. My connection is generally made via the west coast via seattle.mci.net through SanFrancisco.mci.net to pacbell.iconnet.net, to ATM4-0-3.nyc02.IConNet.NET to 199.173.167.190 and if I am lucky orders8.datek.com. Orders 6 remains with mci.net all the way from Seattle to New York and is far more reliable and a quicker network connection even though the Orders 6 server itself seems to be slower. Perhaps putting a high speed server on the mci network may help our cause considerably. As it is now the good servers are on the slow connections and the slower servers on the better ones..

To start off with, I have been trying since 3:00 PM to sign into Datek and have yet to make a connection. In your email you mentioned that you had no problem and for the customers to refresh their connections from "home1.datek.com" to "www.datek.com". I noticed your response was at 4:15 PM. If all that was needed to correct the connection problem was to change the connection, why wasn't this broadcast out to your customers during the day? I tried the refresh connection to datek.com just now and it doesn't work!

What I don't understand is the lack of Datek's concern to correct the problem. Datek doesn't make any commission when the customers can't sign in and trade.

Datek has too many customers and just can't handle it. Datek is too unreliable now. I am looking at other brokers now.

Peter,

Why can't I enter an order to buy or sell SPY (AMEX S&P 500
depository receipts) in 32's. More often than not the inside bid or
ask is in 32 increments. I can't even enter a marketable limit order
on the bid or ask when this is the case.
