Buy a new HP officejet for $99. At least that was the price for a nice networkable HP printer when my wife bought hers a year ago. I print on it from 60 feet away when I need color.

Amazing how cheap decent printers have become.

I am not exactly familiar with the HP5740, but do have several HP printers. If you are printing through the computer there has to be software installed. Search for the HP program and if you can open it you should find the toolbox. Sure would help if you could find the install discs to do a reinstall.

Also, disconnect the printer from the computer, then try printing manually and you should get a test page. I would guess you have a low ink cartridge, or clogged nozzles. You can clean the nozzles manually with a cotton swab, but I prefer to do it with the toolbox. You could also try printing a page in a different program to again insure it's the printer and not the program settings.
