Think it might have been a Jewish "trojan horse" tribal conspiracy to infiltrate & conquer the unconquerable Romans by playing upon their weaknesses for dabbling in far off oriental mystical cults , thus planting the seed & virus in the machineries of the roman psyche itself . They could never win by arms , rebellion or force so they resorted to attacking the Roman's own guilt & insecurities , fallibility as these clever fellows percieved it . Ghandi did no less overthrowing the British Raj using non violence , certainly the Romans developed some heavy guilt trips towards the weakening end of days of the Empire & sense the old God's were forsaking them . Nothing like a good guilt trip to confuse & befuddle your enemy , if you can make it work over a long enough period & of course the Romans in some ways were very susceptable "military" minds who thought themselves clever ...just musing , not usually given to conspiracy theories but where men & nations are involved , survival at stake , conspiracies ever abound !
