Wonderful post. Yes, civilization actually requires us to use abstract thinking to over ride our animal instincts. And we are violent by nature. Violence protected us when we were nomadic and needed to protct our tribe from wild animlas and other tribes who would kill us. If one substitues a tribal chief for god most religions will make perfect sense. IMO, women running our societies is the only chance we have at survival in the long run as they are not as warlike and have more compassion and work harder and seem to have better brains for civilization e.g. when given the chance more women will go to college than men and do better. In the African american community twice as many girls go to college as boys.
