"As an indifferent Android user I'd be willing to give it a go but baked in Xbox and facebook tiles on the home screen would be a deal killer for me. As would lack of cut and paste but am I right in thinking that's there now?"

Yes, you can remove the Xbox tile in Windows Phone 7, and the Facebook app isn't actually installed by default, so it has no tile unless you put it there. Copy and paste is available in most situations (you can copy text from an email or webpage, any text field, and where specifically supported in an app).

FWIW, my quality of life went up dramatically when i switched from Android to WP7. I like my phone almost as much as I like my iPad.
