Outsiders Jump Into Microsoft-DOJ Feud techweb.com

Another group, the American Computer Scientists Association (ACSA), earlier tried to file a brief in support of Microsoft but was rejected by the court. ACSA spokesman John Black said that his nonprofit organization sought to file an untraditional "pro bono brief on behalf of the public," arguing that Janet Reno and the Department of Justice had "sold out to financial interests," such as Sun Microsystems and Netscape, in pursuing the antitrust action. But the group's efforts were returned by the court clerk's office because the ACSA is not a party to the case.

Ok, who are these guys? Sounds like a bunch of eggheads to me!:).

Cheers, Dan.

Ballmer: DOJ Battle Non-Negotiable techweb.com

It just wouldn't be any fun without old Steverino weighing in from time to time.

"The fact of the matter is our dependency on Internet Explorer has exploded. There are literally hundreds of different components. It has been integrated now [into the Windows OS] for two and a half years, but the technical dependence continues to increase."

Yeah, yeah, 4-5 months after the Spyglass deal it was all "integrated" into Windows. The integrity and uniformity of the Windows experience has only increased since then.

Cheers, Dan.

What's behind Netscape's shopping spree? www5.zdnet.com

Analysts lauded the move as a boon to Netscape's existing SuiteSpot server.

"If Kiva didn't exist, Netscape would have to invent it," according to a report by Zona Research Inc. analysts. "From an industry perspective, Netscape may now be at a competitive advantage over vendors such as IBM, Oracle, and Sybase as it now possesses an application server offering that gives SuiteSpot moxie."

Beats me, I never heard of Kiva.

Cheers, Dan.
