Gary, If everyone is getting this defensive, the US treasuries will get sucked up so quickly, that they probably won't leave Japan. They'll just print some money and hang on to them. Having 25% of a conservative portfolio in gold, means that this particular investment manager is somewhat nervous about the longer-term bond market, and is probably only a couple of years out, in average maturity.
