I'm not a proponent of across the board legalization; however, if drugs were legal you would not have people stealing money to buy drugs, that is correct. At least nowhere NEAR what you do now.

The reason street drugs are expensive is they are the subject of black markets.

The street price of Oxycontin is roughly 10x what you would pay at a pharmacy.
