Actually, it's logic that tells one symbolic coding systems (which life is based on) couldn't happen by accident. Logic also tells one that if chemicals could evolve symbolic coding systems, we'd be able to observe it happening. Symbolic coding systems are products of intelligence.

As to what created the intelligence, a logical answer would be we can't possibly know.

then why couldn't the unvierse always have existed?

Because scientific observation of the universe has revealed it had a beginning.

'It just happened for no reason' is a statement of faith.

“And if you answer is: "god always existed, then why couldn't the universe always have existed?”

Precisely. There is no apparent reason to support an idea of nothing. Of course nothing could be something too and that would make sense as well! We do not need to learn it all in a few billion years. Patience!

What we need as a species is to know how ignorant it is to praise some barbarian muck whose only claim to importance is endless genocide--and who would not last ten minutes in modern society before being locked up on death row!
