Don,>>Does anyone know how they decide which shares to call when this happens? It might be based upon how long you held the position, I don't really know.

My experience with this is when your broker lets you short the stock without getting approval by the appropriate desk within the house you can get a call. My broker did this once and I got a call that I had to cover within 10 days. Fortunately, I made money on the short. My broker was honest with me and said that he made a mistake and he would personally cover any losses I would incur. Not very many brokers like this around any more.

In the case of this person who is getting a call, I would talk to the brokers manager and if he does business with a full service broker he will get taken care of, maybe even make a buck.
