I doubt seriously the locals thought anything negative about this. More likely, they were delighted to see "some American muckety-muck" actually behave like a real person for a while. We don't know the circumstances of this trip, nor do we know who might have invited her out ... for all we know her local counterpart was there too, having invited her and her party out for a beer and some music. I see nothing wrong with that. >

FB, LOL. I think I can imagine some of your liberty time. Actually I suspect I do not have to imagine it.

I suspect the locals do not care if American muckety-mucks are acting like real people as long as they pay they bill. Especially if they were generous tippers.

When we hit Hong Kong it was generally after more than one pay period. The sailors who hit the beach with all of it, usually returned with none of it. If I had been willing to run a slush fund I could have done very well. Some did.
