I totally agree with you. Why fix something that is not broken. Leave a little room for the competition to keep the feds out of the way. Over time, I strongly feel that just like iPods the competition will fade away.

Today's 2-3 year olds using the iPad will stick with Apple products all their life. That is the key to Apple's success.

You don't think there is a chance that a smaller iPad at a lower price would be incremental? The gross profit dollars might be lower but the gross profit percentage might be the same.

If the tablet market continues to grow, as I think it will, Apple will need a complete line to defend their turf.

Agreed. Apple will be able to sell much more unit but make much less on each unit. But the upside is that they will ensure the best apps will be on Ipad and not one of the competing tablet. Longer term, it will ensure the dominance of Apple mobile devices and create a semi-monopoly. I would vote for it as an Apple shareholder any day...
