Your story reminds me of the time we drove over to Eastern Wa with a stop over for a dove hunt........where we shot our limit........... to visit inlaws. When we got to their little mt commune we found out everyone had to go to work the next day, so I said I'd be happy to prepare dinner and would they like to have a dove pot pie?

Oh........no...........we can't eat that "we're vegetarians." OK, I said, I'll fix the pie and lots of veggie dishes too.

So the next day I proceed to make up this huge and luscious dove pot pie with a whole wheat crust and a scrumptious filling. I pop it into the wood cook stove a couple of hours before dinner and the smell was permeating the air. Everyone arrives back from work, get cleaned up and come down to the cook shack.

Besides the pie, I had prepared some Acorn squash, braised carrots and celery with butter and herbs and an onion casserole. We sat down to eat with just the two of us............me and hubby..........eating this pie while the rest are eating the veggies. I could see them snatching glances at the pie and I knew they wanted some.

A few minutes into dinner one of them says, "you know...........I think I'll try a smallish piece of that pie." So I dished him up some pie, and he said it was delicious and the rest followed suit. Everyone got a piece of that pie and just loved it.

Ironically, while we're all sitting there under a big open tarp eating our dove pot pie a little dove lands not 20' from where we're sitting and just stands there looking at us.

My husband and I just cracked up. LOL
