I saw a one line news statement that said Fidelity was selling tech stocks. Nothing specific but I read hear Fidelity has AVNT in some of the funds. In any case it's definitly not bullish for going long the stock.

Given that AVNT purchased Compass very late in the 3q97, they received a negative boost to DSO's w/o any time to accelerate collections.

According to Avant!'s 10-Q, $6.7 million of the purchase of Compass was allocated to current assets. Most likely, a significant percentage of this was A/R's, but I couldn't find an exact figure.

The 8-K filing in regards to the merger (available on Edgar), refers to a Schedule 3.6 which would list the breakdown of A/R's at closing. Unfortunately, this schedule is not included in the 8-K.

While we may disagree as to the significance of the increase in A/R's and DSOs last quarter, this remains an area to watch carefully. It provides the best early warning of financial problems at a company.

Take care,
