the unit i had over a decade ago was well before they integrated phones into the blackberry. the phone now is i'm sure a regular cellphone. what i was getting at is they used to use an old wide reaching radio type network back then to tramsmit their emails instantly across the continent. that might be still their email carrier signal and maybe available at remoter locales than cellphone signals. so you wouldn't get remote voice coverage but maybe email availability.

Yeah free phone with another 3 year contract. Funny thing is you can walk to any competitor and get a 'free phone' without a history of being a good customer.
