I frequently use the rectangular self sealing express mail to sent just about anything to my grandchildren across the country. Weight is 70lb limit and I don't send lead or gold so I can pack them full! It cost about 11 bucks each and well worth it. I have no idea if they make or loose money on the proposition, but it is cheaper and easier for me than UPS or American EX.

I send 3 to 4 monthly. It keeps Pop Pop fresh in their minds. I visit only twice a year for a few weeks each.

The USPS needs to be run like a business. Cut the unpopular, unprofitable products and services first. If that isn't enough, do what real businesses do, start closing unprofitable stores and delivery routes. Require people in the boonies to drive 10 to 15 minutes to pick up their mail. Raise the cost of a 1st class stamp to $1.
