Gold's attraction is that governments can't increase the volume of gold.

Actually they can - or at least they could, once: Spain robbed all the gold they could find in the South Americas and shipped it over to Spain back then. What happened? It caused one of those hyper inflations of our history!

But, since then - and here your are absolutely right - no government has been able to increase their volume of gold.

That's the attraction of it, no interest, just safe value.

Sheppie just hasn't gotten the message, that in debt despair, let's say around the time when the US government debt hits 250% or more - right now 'only' 100%+ - , of the national GNP the USD will be split up into a USD and an internationally convertible 'National $$$'.
The T-bills then obviously due in 'National $$$' only with serious jail sentences due for anybody trying to smuggle out their domestic N$$$ assets in some way to - like Switzerland.

Right now all of that is happening in PRC. One British subject just got murdered for getting too greedy on his ideas of a 'fair' commission for helping out those stuck with a domestic not convertible currency.

You believe those guys were aiming at T-bills? My guess'd be, Swiss banks and Swiss francs.

To Shep: please drop your lib back ground for a moment and start using your brains, man!
You got those and you owe to your genes and more to use them.
