Dell, Gateway 2000 To Start Net Confirmation Service For PC Sales

TOKYO (Nikkei)-Dell Computer (Japan) Corp. and Gateway 2000 (Japan) Inc., two major PC direct sales companies, will begin a confirmation service enabling customers to check the status of PCs they order via the Internet. The service will allow customers to check whether their PC is in production or awaiting delivery.

Both companies have been concentrating on mail-order and telephone direct sales. Delivery usually takes two weeks from receipt of the order. Until now, many users have checked the status of their orders by phone.

Gateway plans to start the service on Nov. 26, with Dell to follow at the end of December.
---------------------

This is a cool thing, IMO. Once you order a PC, you want to know how it is going. Being able to track the progress via the web is going to be very nice. I notice that GTW got a jump on Dell by about a month. -G-

P.S.-By the way when I buy it will be to cover my short not to go long!
