John Hussman and a handful of other market analysts are predicting a new cyclical downturn in the the US economy and the market. The Euro zone has already entered a cyclical decline.

This analysis by ECRI indicates that these cycles are going to be more frequent.

More importantly ECRI shows that relatively smaller fluctuations in consumer demand in developed countries have a 'bull whip' effect. This effect is characterized by larger fluctuations in the intermediate goods sector and much larger fluctuations in input material demand and raw good prices.

If this is true, then we could be on the precipice of a serious decline in the prices of raw material and of the equity in companies that supply them.
