I get that. I really do. But in this case, I'm going to side with the law- even if it does prevent some Darwinian selection.

I once had a conversation with a young man I worked with about the wisdom of wearing seat belts. We were driving from NYC to a client site in southern New Jersey. He said he never wore seat belts because if it's your time to go, then you're going to go, and if it isn't, you won't.

I asked him if he usually looked both ways before crossing the street, or if he instead just barreled on out there without a glance, using the same fatalistic theory. He buckled up.
