Why don't you research Iron Fertilization.. Dr. John Martin.

Chlorosis.

High Nitrates/Low Chlorophyll (HNLC) zones..

While you're at it, look up Marine Snow (Diatoms) and Biological Pump.

That's a pretty good start for you.. Get your arms around the subject, then consider how Anthropogenic soil conservation efforts might be limiting the amount of Iron that naturally is deposited in the oceans.
