Not as long as there is a pretty good supply of everything on the asteroids right here on Earth. . I don't see the technology making the mining cost effective or even close. So far Space is lacking a killer app. Until one turns up space travel is realistically basic research - not intended to supply any expected returns but worth doing for its own sake. Platinum is an amazingly useful catalyst, useful on a wide range of industrial chemistry applications. I don't think platinum jewelry is all that attractive myself.
