The recession began almost to the DAY that Bush agreed to increase taxes. At the time, we did accounting for a sizable chain of mall shoe stores which did many millions in sales. The dropoff in sales was palpable. We knew at the end of that August they were going to get hammered. It was like Bush said it one day and the next people just stopped spending. Coincidence? I don't know; I'm not much of a believer in that kind of coincidence.

Uh......unemployment went over 10%; its now down to 8%. I call that a sizeable dent.
