I don't know if his operation was national or only metro NY, but Sy Syms owned a clothing store. He used to do his own commercials, and each time he would conclude with the same line -- "At Syms, the educated consumer is our best customer". I though this was a great line. I borrowed it and used it often, for many, many years - but I always remembered to give the old guy the credit. If any of you heard this in a doc's office, it is possible that we've met... :) It makes especially great sense in certain cases, like managing Diabetes. Without the patient being at least somewhat knowledgeable - and motivated - the doc will be quite helpless. And OTOH, motivated people can learn a lot, and do a great job managing their Diabetes all by themselves, with only occasional guidance from the doc.
