Saying something is going to happen and wanting it are two different things. You can see something is going to happen and not to like it. That is the case here.

If I strike a match and throw it on dry tinder, I can make a pretty educated guess as to what will happen next. Very similarly, if we don't prosecute the criminals that created the last financial crisis, we don't put in laws and regulations to prevent it from happening again, and we give trillions in free money to recapitalize the banks of the criminals who created the last financial crisis, and in the process make those criminals even richer than before....well, it's becomes very easy to guess what will happen next.

If stealing money results in a small fine, way below the amount you stole, then getting caught becomes a cost of doing business. The banks in the US now resemble a criminal syndicate with mafioso tendencies. They no longer resemble free, private enterprises that stay within the rule of law.

If you believe that these banks will not sin again, then you are very naive indeed. In fact, all around us is the evidence that they have doubled down on the bad behavior that lead to 2008. They have more derivative exposure than ever and they have more leverage than ever, and the same guys who created the mess last time are still in charge. We're a speeding train heading straight for the cliff.
