It's been a problem for decades.

I moved to NE Utah in '79 and there were decimated forests then.

One of them, north of Vernal, caught on fire from lightning. Standing dead pines with all of their dried needles still on. The trees would just explode in flame and the fire would race across the tops of the trees. Too dangerous to fight....and they didn't. Winter snow finally stopped it.
