Reports of three men being arrested Tuesday night for attempting to smuggle drugs onto a Malibu beach have been confirmed by the Malibu/Lost Hills Sheriff’s station. Sgt. Stephanie Shrout said Los Angeles County lifeguards alerted the Malibu/Lost Hills Sheriff’s station of a suspicious boat just off the Latigo Beach shore Tuesday at 10:30 p.m. After confirming that it was a panga boat, Sheriff Deputies notified the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. Following a failed attempt to escape, the suspects who have been identified as adult male Hispanics, were arrested near Point Dume. Authorities were able to recover the panga boat as well as 80 20 lb. bales of marijuana. Stay tuned to The Malibu Times for further on this story.

BY JENNIFER CORBETT DOOREN The Food and Drug Administration Friday approved a new drug from Vivus Inc. to treat erectile dysfunction.

The approval of the drug, Stendra, is the first product approval for Vivus, based in Mountain View, Calif. The company is also awaiting an FDA decision on its proposed obesity drug Qnexa, which is expected about July 17.
