Article from earlier this month reports Russian movements on Iran's northern border. As tensions grow about Iran Their concern may be more about stopping hundreds of thousands or millions of Iranian refugees looking for refuge. The Russian Bear will do everything necessary to protect mother Russia. Always has and always will. They have always been paranoid about that, more so now that they have lost the additional troop strength and the safety buffer that occupying Eastern Europe provided them in the past.
