Can someone explain this to me? Jobless Data: Each week I watch the surprise report on Wall Street. I am pretty sure I could count the claims filed in a few minutes with access to the public data. How do the World's most expert economists miss by so much, and do it so often, same question regarding home sales...although home sales is probably not so available to the public. Nice to see the green today btw ... but still what the ....?

Major Averages Muddle Along with Modest Gains

The major equity averages are up modestly despite a lack of leadership and some disappointing weekly initial jobless claims numbers. A neutral tone to premarket trade soured slightly in response to news that the latest initial jobless claims tally totaled 388,000, which is little changed from the prior week, but greater than the 373,000 claims that economists polled by Briefing.com had generally expected.
