Defrocked,
If there is a real intervention then everything I have posted must be voided. But do you think that any interventions are merely a short term prop-up of the markets. If only the symptoms are treated, what about the disease?
Regards,
Barbara

Defrocked: I think the futures just turned around and are going down. However, if Japan does not come back tonight and Europe is trashed later, watch unusual trading patterns on the U. S. open tomorrow.

The only non-market action that I have noticed--in my opinion of course--since 10/27/97 was on 10/28/97. I posted a note to that effect at about 11.30 on the 28th as soon as I noticed it. However, I felt that it was worked out with Secretary Rubin and his Wall Street friends. The odd action was notable by a V movement--nearly straight down and then nearly straight up at 10:30 am. It was triggered at 7,000 on the DJI; about the same time the stock buybacks were announced. Coincidences maybe, but I think I noticed non-market forces.

If things go bad tonight, I will be watching the London action after 8:00 am tomorrow--Germany closes at that time and London is open until 11:30--if I remember correctly. Our friends in London can help slow down the plague before it arrives here. There was a turnaround in London on the 28th also. I will also watch Globex before the opening. I then will watch the consistency in percent declines in the DJI, S&P, and NASDAQ on Yahoo Finance at the opening also. Maybe the DJI will all of a sudden break loose from the other averages unexpectedly. Then the V pattern at 7700 on the DJI.

Who knows? Maybe nothing will happen but it may prove interesting. I doubt if the same thing would be done twice, but who knows. Maybe it would just be another coincidence.

There is a press release of Greenspan's that you may find interesting from January 1997. The url is

Look for the term "safety net." You can draw your own conclusions.
